PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce or suppress excessive voltage and current stress to the component of a preheating resonance circuit or a discharge lamp filament when the discharge lamp is removed. SOLUTION: This discharge lamp lighting device having dimmer control function comprises an inverter load circuit formed of a parallel circuit of a lighting resonance circuit (inductors L11 and L12 and capacitors C11 and C12) including discharge lamps LA1 and LA2; and the preheating resonance circuit (inductor L2 and capacitor C2) including preheating windings n2-n5 for supplying current to discharge filaments ft1-ft4. A voltage clamp circuit or a serial circuit of the voltage clamp circuit with an impedance element is connected to both ends of at least one resonance element of the preheating resonance circuit, or both ends of the output part of the preheating windings.
