PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a focus controller capable of stably performing focus jumping from a first layer to a third layer in a short time. SOLUTION: After switching to an accelerating part, acceleration interruption start timing from the first layer is detected based on a comparison result of an acceleration time comparing means and an output of a signal detecting part to switch to an acceleration interrupting part, deceleration start timing to a second layer is detected based on the output of the signal detecting part, focusing timing of the second layer is detected based on the output of the signal detecting part and an output of an RF signal amplitude detecting part, acceleration interruption start timing from the second layer is detected based on the output of the signal detecting part, deceleration start timing to a third layer is detected based on the output of the signal detecting part to switch to a decelerating part at that time, and the decelerating part of a signal generating part is switched to a signal generating means based on the output of the signal detecting part and the output of the RF signal amplitude detecting part.
