PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a data processing apparatus, a data processing method, a program and a recording medium that can embed many more data. SOLUTION: The embedding processing extracts characteristic data from embedding object data and embeds the characteristic data and embedded data to embedding object data to create embedded coding data (Figure 36A). On the other hand, decoding processing performs decode processing to decode tentative embedding object data, tentative characteristic data, and tentative embedded data from the embedding coded data. Further, the characteristic data are extracted from the tentative embedding object data and the decode processing is controlled on the basis of the coincidence between the characteristic data and the decoded tentative characteristic data.
