PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reader capable of preventing a defect such as defective resolution caused by a bent board due to a temperature rise at image reading even in the case of optical adjustment just after application of power. SOLUTION: A power supply section 41 receiving a control signal Vod-Cont from a CPU 39 applies a second power supply voltage to a CCD sensor 19 at application of power, and the power supply section 41 applies a first power supply voltage to the CCD sensor 19 after a lapse of a prescribed time so as to temporarily increase the power supply voltage VOD to the CCD sensor 19 at application of power. Thus, application of a high power supply voltage to the CCD sensor 19 increases the temperature of the CCD sensor 19 in a short time so as to bring the temperature into a saturated state. Then the image reader is optically adjusted in the same state as that at image reading.
