PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reader which can select a pressing force exerted onto an original with a simple configuration. SOLUTION: The image reader is configured to comprise an original pressing member that acts on an original so as to press the original in a direction of an image sensor; a base member that positions the original pressing member as to a planar direction including the carrying direction of the original and is fixed to an image reader main body to support the original pressing member slidably in a direction opposite to the image sensor, and an original pressing section that is placed on the base member and comprising a pressing block selectively engaged with/released from the original pressing member.
