PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a negative electrode active material for a lithium secondary battery having superior life characteristic by inhibiting the swelling phenomenon, and capable of increasing the capacity of the lithium secondary battery, and a method of manufacturing the same. SOLUTION: This negative electrode active material is composed of a core made of a material including carbon, and surface treatment layer covering the surface of the core, made of a material including at least one compound of a coating element selected from among an oxyhydroxide of a coating element, oxycarbonate of the coating element and hydroxycarbonate of the coating element. |
