PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus which can properly shift to an energy saving mode on the basis of consumed electric power in a standby mode set in advance, and efficiently form an image without consuming electric power wastefully. SOLUTION: After an image forming operation, a copy standby mode to promptly reconstitute an image forming state all the time is set into the apparatus. When the CPU of the main body 10 of a copying machine judges that the consumed electric power of the apparatus has reached the target consumed electric power Wm set in advance through the standby mode, a mode change means operates to interrupt the main power supply of the apparatus by a command of the CPU, and then the apparatus shifts to the energy saving mode. Accordingly, the copy standby mode from which the apparatus can promptly shift to the image forming operation is properly set in the apparatus in the state where the electric power is not wastefully consumed, and the apparatus can efficiently form the image. |
