The circuit monitors current flow and detects wide band noise which may be indicative of arcing in the electrical load circuit. The circuit includes a sensor (16) which detects current flow and creates a corresponding signal which is applied to a wide band noise detecting circuit. This circuit produces an output indicating the presence of wide band noise which is fed to a control circuit (40). The control circuit produces a signal in the event of wide band noise which is indicative of a failure arising as a result of arcing occurring in the monitored circuit. The sensing and detection circuits are connected to an electrical output socket, in parallel with the electrical terminal on the side of the load.
