The propelling pencil (20) consists of a cylindrical tubular body (21) containing a lead (23), and a head (22) with outer (24) and inner (25) sleeves and a mobile tip (26). The sleeves are fixed together by semi-circular projections on the inner sleeve engaging with slots in the outer one, and the two can be separated by rotating one relative to the other to allow any accumulation of lead dust inside the pencil to be removed.
