摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To encode color multi-value image data so as to be contained within an object size without the need for re-input of the data. SOLUTION: An encoding section 102 converts the multi-value image data received from an input section 101 into luminance, color difference data and encodes them through DCT and quantization. First and second memories store the encoded data. Further, a first counter 107 counts the code quantity. When the image processor decides that the code quantity exceeds a target value, the processor aborts the data stored in the first memory and allows the encoding section 102 to decide to which color component of the AC or DC component of an image received after that an increased quantization step is to be applied. Moreover, a re-encoding section 109 encodes the data having been encoded before under the similar condition to that of the encoding section 102 and stores the re-encoded data to the first and second memories.
