PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a coated type magnetic recording medium having excellent powder falling resistance in addition to electromagnetic conversion characteristics and traveling durability which are conventionally considered as opposing characteristics. SOLUTION: This coated type magnetic recording medium is prepared in such a manner that when an average of fast Fourier transformation intensity of wavelength component of 10 to 40μm isλL, and an average of fast Fourier transformation intensity of wavelength component of 100 to 200μm isλS, the surface wavelength component ratio (λL/λS) of a nonmagnetic support of a side where a magnetic layer is formed is set to 2 or lower, and center line average roughness (Ra) is 20 nm or lower. When one ofλL/λS and Ra deviates from the ranges, deterioration occurs in electromagnetic characteristics, traveling durability or powder falling resistance. When both are within the above ranges, a magnetic recording medium which satisfies all the characteristics is provided.
