PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the number of precharge switches by improving a precharge mode. SOLUTION: A pixel array part consists of gate lines 1 arranged in a row direction, signal lines 2 arranged in a column direction and matrix pixels 3 arranged in portions where both lines intersect. The precharge switch group PSW is connected between precharge lines 7 and each signal line 2. A precharge drive circuit 8 drives the precharge switch group PSW all at once in a horizontal blanking period before a horizontal scanning period, and carries out a bulk precharge for applying the precharge signal of a first level to each signal line 2 all at once and a sequential precharge for successively applying the precharge signal of a second level to each signal line 2 by successively driving each switch of the precharge switch group PSW in the horizontal scanning period.
