PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fluorescent lamp capable of preventing thermal breakage of an inverter or a peripheral device by cutting off a current by fusing a part of a conductive wire of an external electrode with a low current value when an overcurrent flows through the lamp and a circuit without degrading the luminous efficiency of the lamp. SOLUTION: This fluorescent lamp is composed by connecting, as the external electrode 5, (1) a conductive wire of a wire diameter and a material causing a large fusing current (that is, having a low resistance value) in order to keep the resistance loss of the external electrode low in lighting the lamp and to improve the luminous efficiency of the lamp in series with (2) a conductive wire of a wire diameter and of a material causing a small fusing current value (that is, having a high resistance value) in order to quickly fuse the part of the conductive wire when an overcurrent flows through the lamp.
