PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus which can detect the presence or absence and state of a process cartridge with a simple configuration. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus is provided with a communication abnormality detection part 208 to detect a communication state with a memory in the process cartridge, and a toner density abnormality detection part 209 to detect the normality/abnormality of the output value of the toner density detecting sensor in the process cartridge. The presence or absence of the process cartridge and the normality/abnormalities of the memory or the toner density detecting sensor are judged by the detection results of these detection parts. |
