PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image display device excellent in voltage withstanding against discharge and with improved image definition. SOLUTION: The device is provided with a face plate 12 having an image display face and a rear plate 10 arranged in opposition to the face plate with a gap and equipped with a plurality of electron sources 18 exciting the image display face. A grid 24 and a plurality of spacers 30a, 30b are provided between the face plate and the rear plate. Thermal expansion coefficient of the grid is set at not less than 70% and less than 100 of that of glass constituting the face plate and the rear plate within the range of around 30 to 100 deg.C.
