PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a highly durable fuel cell by using a stainless steel plate having roughened one face/both faces and one face plated with Ni or Cu-plated face as a separator base material. SOLUTION: Using the stainless steel plate as the base material, Ni-plating layer or a Cu-plating layer is arranged on the steel plate surface facing a fuel electrode in the fuel cell, and in the other face facing an oxidation electrode, the surface is reformed to have minute projections protruded in the circumference of multiple minute pits. On the oxidation electrode side exposed to a severe corrosion environment, contact resistance is lowered by formation of the minute pits while natural corrosion resistance of the stainless steel is used. On the fuel electrode side exposed to a comparatively gentle corrosion environment, contact resistance is further lowered by the Ni or Cu plating layer. |
