PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a remote controller used for equipment such as an air conditioner or the like which can be made easily usable by the aged or children who are not accustomed to use and which can be prevented from being operated by mistake. SOLUTION: The remote controller comprises a liquid crystal display unit 1 which displays drive information of the equipment and which has a backlight capable of being lit in a plurality of colors, an operating unit 2 having a plurality of control buttons 2a to 2g which are operated to input drive information and which can light, a power source for lighting the backlight, specific modes (b), (c) capable of partly operating the buttons 2a to 2g, and a user mode switching unit 3 for switching to a normal mode (a) which can operate all. The switching unit 3 lights the backlight of the button which is operable when the unit 3 is switched to the specific mode (b), (c) or the normal mode (a).
