PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a communication system in which the constitution of a multiplexer is simplified when communications between a plurality of camera side units and communication equipment are performed via a multiplexer. SOLUTION: The multiplexer comprises a selector which inputs a signal sent from each camera side unit via each image signal transmission cable, a plurality of trigger signal detecting means provided at the respective camera side units to detect the trigger signals superposed on the image signals sent via respective image signal transmission cables, a means for controlling the selector to select and output the signal from the camera side unit which sends the trigger signal of a plurality of signals input to the selector when the trigger signal is detected by the trigger signal detecting means, and a means for extracting and sending communication data from the signal output from the selector to a communication control line.
