PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reader provided with a main carrying mechanism, the operation of which is switched under a forward feed mode for carrying the photo film toward the discharge port or under a reverse mode for carrying the photo film toward the loading port, for carrying a photo film loaded from a loading port onto a carrying lane; an image read point for converting analog image information of the photo film into digital image information; and discharge port for discharging the photo film passing through the image read point, where the possibility of the photo film discharged from the discharge port taken into the reader from the discharging port can be precluded even when an image is read by a two-path system after the image is read by a one-path system. SOLUTION: The image reader is provided with a catching preventing mechanism that prevents the photo film F1 discharged from the discharge port 10b from being again introduced into the reader 9 depending on driving of the main carrying mechanism in the reverse feed mode.
