A yarn is provided which includes a core formed of a cut-resistant materials and a wrapping yarn wound about the core. The core may include glass, metal and carbonaceous fibers which may be roughened and/or stretch-broken. The yarn may exhibit enhanced performance properties, such as strength, cut resistance and heat resistance. A method of making the yarn includes combining a glass filament and metal filament in a core wrapped by a sheath.
