The invention concerns a method and device for detecting a short circuit on signalling lines of a sensor, in particular of a knock sensor (KS) on an internal combustion engine. The invention is characterized in that a reference static potential (URef) is applied to a signalling line (L1, L2) with intermediate switching of a resistor (R1, R2) and the static potential on the signalling line (L1, L2) is captured, a short circuit being detected if the captured static potential exceeds a predefined range.
