<p>The present invention relates to a method of controlling traffic, particularly of controlling automobile traffic in large towns and cities, wherein transponders (1) are provided that can be read from distances by means of a communicator (2, 3, 4, N) which sends an enquiry signal to respective transponders and receives a response signal therefrom, and wherein each transponder is provided with a unique identity that is sent to the communicator. The method is characterised by providing a sufficiently large number of automotive vehicles with a transponder (1) of said kind; placing along streets and roads communicators (2, 3, 4, N) that are adapted to read the identity of passing vehicles and their respective transponders (1); causing the communicators (2, 3, 4, N) to send to a central computer (5) information relating to the identity of read transponders and the time at which reading took place; causing the central computer to pair together two mutually sequential readings of one and the same identity with different communicators (2, 3, 4, N); and calculating the time difference between said two readings; and causing the central computer (5) to pair together said time difference with the geographical positions of said two respective communicators.</p> |
