A drive unit (20) with a hydraulic motor can be coupled to the excavator frame (7). The motor can be connected to a control block (11) in the hydraulic unit (8) for the excavator and drives a shaft with a wheel (22) on each end. A support wheel (15) at the free end of the boom (3) is used to transport the excavator with its boom in an essentially vertical position. The support wheel and the two wheels on the drive shaft form the points of an isosceles triangle.
