The armrest has a stationary base section (1) and a support section (2) which is adjustable in relation to it. The support section has an adjusting device in the form of a scissor lift (3) installed between slide rails constructed as base slide rail and a support slide rail. The base slide rail forms the base section, and the support slide rail forms the support section which is adjustable in relation to the base section. The scissor lift has crossing members (3a,3b) with two base end points (5a,5b) and two support end points (4a,4b) accommodated in or on the respective rails.
