The fuel injector has an injection jet (180) at the end of an injector housing (101) containing a jet needle (103) cooperating with the valve seat (106) of an injection valve (160) and operated by a piezoactuator (126) via a motion converter (200,300,400). The latter converts the movement of the piezoactuator drive element (128) in one direction into a movement of the jet needle in the opposite direction and vice versa via a pair of parallel operating elements coupled together via a drive element.
