Device for estimating movement in images comprised of image blocks comprises: a program memory (RAM) for storage of a program for determining movement vectors with the program commands having X- and Y-parameters; a movement vector generator unit (G) for generation of a movement vector (V) from a program command; an evaluation unit controlled by the vector generation unit for calculation of a quality function dependent on the agreement between a master image block of an actual block and a candidate block; and an optimization unit. An Independent claim is made for a movement estimation program for use with the independent device.
