A rigid arm (8) connecting a rotary cross-piece (7) to a part (4) of the foot section of the bed is directly pivotally connected to a bearing hole on the hinge plate (16) for this part of the foot section. The frame (1) has foot and back sections (3-5) pivotally connected to it, the back section (5) having a head section (6) pivotally connected to it. A first rotary cross-piece secured to the frame is connected via a rigid arm to a first part of the foot section, which in turn is pivotally connected to a second part (3) of this foot section. A second rotary cross-piece (10) is connected via a rigid arm (11) to the head section. A stop (14) is provided for the back section following a raising of the head section. Hinge plates (15, 16) are provided on the two foot section parts to form a hinge.
