The support column (20) used for holding several boards (30) is divided into sections (1) of different lengths in order to be adjusted to the height of the stored items. Each of the sections (1) is of a flat shape and provided with a groove (7) at its rear for the accommodation of the upper, the lower end of a joint element (2) respectively. Various bores (4) in the joint elements (2) facilitate the sections (1) to be combined with a wider or narrower gap (9) left between them for the insertion of the rear edge of a board (30) of a particular thickness. The surfaces of the upper and the lower end of the sections (1) are slightly inclined (11) in order to allow a convenient insertion of the board (30) and coated with a textured material (10) for the avoidance of an unintentional moving of the shelves (30) after assembly.
