The invention relates to a vehicle seat, which effects a lateral displacement of the occupant seated on the vehicle seat during a lateral impact or immediately prior to a lateral impact. The lateral displacement starts from the side of the vehicle facing the impact and moves towards the centre of the vehicle. The invention is characterised in that for said lateral displacement, at least one seat cushion can be displaced separately in a transversal direction in relation to other seat components and the seat fixing elements.
