The carrier for use in parallel synthesis and analysis has separate wells, each filled at least partially by a porous shaped body which takes up fluids, and which matches the well shape. The shaped body is of a porous polymer, an inorganic material, a gel which swells in water, an ion exchanger, or an amino-functional polymer. The shaped body is hygroscopic and promotes polymerase chain reactions.
