An arrangement for liquid analysis has two, spaced apart, electrodes (2a,2b). The electrodes are made of electrically conductive material, with part of the electrodes covered by or embedded in an ion sensitive membrane (3) which is in contact with the test solution (8) and receptive to one of the electrolyte ions so changing at least one electrical property, detected by electrode (2a), and/or producing a potential difference. The second membrane layer (3) and electrode (2b) combination is receptive to a further electrolyte ion to produce a further electrical property change or potential difference. A switch (4) permits either the electrical property to be measured or the potential difference to be determined relative to the reference electrode (5) .
