Fatigue testing method in which a test item (2) is used to close an open frame (1) or to join two sections of a frame together. The resultant structure has at least four node points that lie within its vibration plane. Vibration of the structure is induced in this plane or perpendicular to it so that the test item is exposed to torsion and bending loads. The support frame is fixed with respect to the vibration loads applied to the test item and has an intentional pre-stressing. An Independent claim is made for a fatigue testing device comprising an open frame in which a test item is inserted.
