PURPOSE: An apparatus and a method for designating an initial channel of a video equipment are provided to automatically turn on an initial channel if the initial channel is designated in turning on a TV, and automatically turn on a final channel if the initial channel is not designated. CONSTITUTION: A key input unit includes a remote control input unit(1a) and a key panel(1b). A control unit(2) processes initially designated channel data inputted from the key input unit. A memory(3) memorizes the initially designated channel data and final channel data. A time calculator(4) provides time information. A video processor(5) processes video signals. An OSD(On Screen Display) processor(6) executes OSD process. A tuner/intermediate frequency circuit(7) selects a channel of broadcast signals. An audio processor(8) processes audio signals of the tuner/intermediate frequency circuit. An output unit(9) outputs the processed video and audio signals through a screen and a speaker.
