LOCKING TROWEL COVERS

Trowels have sharp edges which can cut a worker when he places the trowel down in a resting position. Disclosed is a plastic sheath 4 to insert a trowel into during non-use. The sheath also prevents nicks and dents to the trowel while it is transported. Various sheath embodiments include a narrowed rear section 106 of a longitudinal slot 107 on an upper member of the sheath which functions to hold the spine of the trowel in the slot, a rubber membrane 200 stretchable over the blade of the trowel, a pair of jaw members 130, 140 on the top of the sheath to lock the shank of the trowel into the sheath, a tether 183 on top of the sheath to lock the shank into the sheath, and a rear door 162 for the slot.
