ZIRCONIA BASED SINTERED PRODUCT EXCELLENT IN DURABILITY AND ABRASION-RESISTANT MEMBER USING THE SAME

A Y<sb>2</sb>O<sb>3</sb>−reinforced zirconia based sintered product excellent in durability, characterized in that (a) ZrO<sb>2</sb> contained therein is mainly composed of a tetragonal ZrO<sb>2</sb>, and it contains Y<sb>2</sb>O<sb>3</sb> as a secondary component and further contains SiO<sb>3</sb> and Al<sb>2</sb>O<sb>3</sb> as a third component, (b) it has a Y<sb>2</sb>O<sb>3</sb>/ZrO<sb>2</sb> mol ratio in the range of 1.5/98.5 to 4/96, (c) it has a SiO<sb>2 </sb>content of 0.05 to 2.5 wt %, (d) it has a Al<sb>2</sb>O<sb>3 </sb>content of 0.05 to 3.0 wt %, (e) it has an average crystal grain diameter of 0.7 μm or less, (f) SiO<sb>2</sb> (wt %) X average crystal grain diameter (μm) takes a value in the range of 0.03 to 0.5, (g) it contains at least one oxide of Na<sb>2</sb>O, K<sb>2</sb>O, CaO and Fe<sb>2</sb>O<sb>3 </sb>as an impurity and the weight ratio of SiO<sb>2</sb>/(the total of the impurities) is 5 or more, and (h) it has a bulk density of 5.70 g/cm<sp>3</sp> or more; and a member using the sintered product which requires high strength and good resistance to abrasion.
