The side airbag unit consists of a side airbag (10), which in the inflated state has a sector in which there is a recess in which the seat occupant's seat belt lies. The sector of the belt in the recess is the part in the vicinity of the B-pillar. The recess should be made so that the belt sector in it is covered by the surrounding inflated regions of the airbag.
