<p>A method of multiplexing audio signals is disclosed in which a first input audio signal A1 if offset positively, a second input audio signal B1 is offset negatively and the two resulting signals are time division multiplexed to produce an encoded (e.g. digital), multiplexed signal Y which may be suitable for recording (e.g. on an optically readable medium) or broadcast. Following reading or receiving of the signal, and conversion of same to an analogue electrical signal, de-multiplexing can be achieved by separating positive and negative components thereof to form two output signals for driving respective loudspeakers. The invention allows quadrophonic reproduction using a stereo audio system, subject to the addition of a de-multiplexer at the system's AC output. The invention also concerns multiplexed recordings and broadcasts.</p> |
