It is intended to provide drugs ameliorating hypo-HDL cholesterolemia, preventives/remedies for arteriosclerosis, and a method of preventing/treati ng these diseases/symptoms targeting HDL without needing any genetic engineerin g techniques. Namely, clinically useful drugs ameliorating hypo-HDL cholesterolemia and preventives/remedies for arteriosclerosis which contain a cysteine protease inhibitor as the active ingredient and thus can enhance th e expression dose of ABCA1 and increase HDL in the blood without employing any genetic engineering techniques.
