A device for thermally controlling an electrochemical energy converter (1) comprises locating a Peltier element (4) in a region of the converter where a heat flow occurs and providing a current or voltage to this element. An Independent claim is also included for a process for the above which selects the direction of application of the current or voltage to minimize the heat flow.
