[Also in Division C2] An anticariogenic composition comprises a product obtained by reacting phosphorus pentoxide, P 4 O 10 , and urea in an aqueous environment, the molar ratio of urea to P 4 O 10 being 2, 4 or 8. When the molar ratio is 2, the product comprises mainly urea pyrophosphate and also some carbamido pyrophosphate; when the ratio is 4, the product comprises dimerised urea carbamido pyrophosphate (mainly), monomer of the latter, diurea pyrophospate, dimer of the latter, urea orthophosphate and carbamido phosphoric acid; and when the ratio is 8, the product comprises tetraurea pyrophosphate (mainly), diurea dicarbamido pyrophospate, diurea orthophosphate and urea carbamido phosphate. The composition may be added to a carbohydrate (especially to a sugar such as sucrose), a non-nutritive artificial sweetener, a comestible or a sugar-containing comestible, such as cakes, puddings, candy, chewing gum, and gelatin desserts. |
