The invention relates to a charging device (BE1) for a toll system (SYS) in a vehicle, comprising a position determining system (PES), for determining the position of a vehicle (FAR), said charging device (BE1) comprising a receiver unit (EMP) for receiving positional data from the position determining system (PES) and transmitting the same to a controller (STE), which determines local co-ordinates (OKO) of the vehicle from the positional data, calculates a signature (SIG), characteristic for a stretch of road (STR) being used and determines from the signature (SIG) whether the stretch of road (STR) being used is a toll road. The controller (STE) also checks a user authorisation (BER) in a memory (SPR) to see if said vehicle (FAR) is authorised to use said stretch of road (STR) in the case where said stretch of road (STR) is a toll road.
