Motor vehicle computer operating device has a housing (32) with upper and lower key-type operating elements (34, 36). The housing can be moved in a direction (46) perpendicular to a line joining the two elements together by sliding along a guide. A sliding command element generates an output signal based on the position of the sliding housing in its guide. The invention also relates to a corresponding motor vehicle computer system with a monitor, controller and selection or operating elements with the latter including an inventive sliding element.
