PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a drilling machine which can efficiently and accurately drill a timber. SOLUTION: The drilling machine comprises a base 2 for fixedly placing the timber 1, and a lateral drilling unit 3 for drilling a lateral hole at the side face of the timber. The lateral drilling unit has a guide member 5 stood on a slide base 4 movable along the longitudinal direction of the timber. The drilling unit has a lateral drill 6 retractably provided to the side face of the timber under the guidance of the guide member, a detachably positioning bar 7 fixed in parallel with the timber on the base and having an engaging part 9 corresponding to the hole position of a fitment to couple the timbers to each other, and a positioning pin 8 engaged with the engaging part 9 to move together with the slide base, thereby automatically positioning the drilling unit 3.
