Method of producing granules and extruder

A fluid at an over-critical condition is mixed with a material in the extruder and the pressure and temperature prior to the outlet are controlled to ensure that the over-critical fluid is rapidly converted from a fluid to a gas on leaving the outlet and in doing so cools and/or dries the material. The cooling and/or drying rapidly solidifies the extruded material allowing it to immediately be used for further processing. An Independent claim is also included for an extruder for the process that comprises a screw, a die at the outlet and a feeding system for the over-critical fluid.
