PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing a glow plug including a center and body electrodes in which a noble metal insert is mounted, which is implemented quickly, economically and with manufacturing safety of high level, and also provide a glow plug manufactured by the method. SOLUTION: The tip 9 of the center electrode 1 is shaped like a pyramid with a diameter (d) at the base, a noble metal ball 2 having a diameter (d) is fitted within a plane of a welding electrode 3, the center electrode tip 9 is pressed on the noble metal ball 2 under designated welding contact pressure and designated welding parameter for liquefying the center electrode tip 9 to be liquefied, and the liquefied material of the center electrode tip 9 is allowed to flow along the partial periphery of the noble metal ball 2. After the liquefied material of the center electrode tip 9 is solidified, the welding electrode 3 is separated from the center electrode 1 where the noble metal ball 2 is buried.
