PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the power consumption of a simple matrix type liquid crystal panel by suppressing the variation frequency of a column electrode wave-form without decreasing display quality even when the number of gradations are increased. SOLUTION: In a method for driving multi-gradation display of the liquid crystal display panel in which the simple matrix type liquid crystal display panel provided with a matrix of pixels and holding a liquid crystal layer between a group of row electrodes and a group of column electrodes is driven according to given pixel data, pulse width modulation is performed according to the sum of a plurality of pulses selected from a plurality of frames, and the variation frequency of the column electrodes for displaying the half-tone pixel data to a single pixel is made to be once in a plurality of frames. Thus, the power consumption is substantially reduced compared with that of a conventional pulse width modulation by selecting the number of frames with which the display quality is not degraded.
