PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for smelting extra-low carbon steel with high cleanliness in the adequate productivity, in vacuum decarburizing treatment. SOLUTION: This method for smelting the extra-low carbon steel while carrying out decarburization treatment with a vacuum degassing process, includes controlling a total quantity of iron (T. Fe) in ladle slag before the decarburization treatment, to more than 6% but 12% or less.
