PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a propylene ethylene random copolymer having a high ethylene content and containing little low-molecular-weight amorphous component, and its efficient production process. SOLUTION: The propylene/ethylene random copolymer having a high ethylene content and a low content of a component soluble at 0 deg.C is obtained by polymerizing monomers in the presence of a catalyst consisting of [A] a solid catalyst component obtained by reacting (a) a magnesium compound, (b) a titanium compound, (c) a specified malonic diester and, if necessary, (d) a silicon compound and [B] an organoaluminum compound, or a catalyst consisting of [A], [B], and [C] an electron-donating compound.
