PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce cross talks between neighbor ejectors and lessen serious printing head traces by defective ejectors. SOLUTION: An acoustic printing head having an array of ejectors arranged in a plurality of rows and columns and controllable individually is used. A first ejector selected in a selected column is specified as an odd-number ejector of the selected column, and a first firing sequence is generated for the first selected ejector. Subsequently, a second ejector immediately adjacent to the first ejector is selected and specified as an even-number ejector. A second firing sequence is generated for the second selected ejector. The first and the second firing sequences drive the first ejector and the second ejector within non concurrent periods. When the defective ejector is detected in the array, an operable ejector for firing into the same substrate region is detected, and both its own firing sequence and the firing sequence of the defective ejector are carried out.
