In a digital broadcast service such as satellite television, an information circuit is formed comprising a broadcast service provider 234, a set-top box 200, and a wireless device such as a mobile phone 106. Each device in the circuit is authenticated to the other devices in the circuit before access to a requested service is allowed. Each device creates and manages a service record corresponding to the requested service and a partner identity record corresponding to each other device in the circuit. The set-top box authenticates a subscriber's smart card, the service provider authenticates the set-top box and the cellular communication network authenticates the mobile phone. Authentication information is passed around the circuit to all the devices and access to the requested service is granted when the authentication status of all devices is known and the circuit is complete. |
